Alateen is a supportive environment where members come together to share experiences, strength, and hope with each other, helping to find effective ways to cope with their problems. In these recovery support groups, teens discuss difficulties and encourage one another, while also helping each other understand the principles of the Al-Anon program through the Twelve Steps and Alateen’s Twelve Traditions.
However, Alateen is not a place for teenagers seeking help for drinking or drug problems or a therapy program. It is also not a venue to complain about parents or anyone else, nor is it a social hangout.
The following questions are designed to help you determine if Alateen, a recovery support group for teens, is right for you.
1. Do you believe no one could possibly understand how you feel?
2. Do you cover up your real feelings by pretending you don’t care?
3. Do you feel neglected, uncared for, or unloved?
4. Do you tell lies to cover up for someone else’s drinking or what’s happening in your home?
5. Do you stay out of the house as much as possible because you hate it there?
For additional questions: Have I been Affected?
If you have answered “Yes” to any of these questions, Alateen may provide the support for teens that you need.
